DRILLS & PRACTICE PLANS

Reaction Shooting - Move to Shoot

Reaction Shooting is used to help a player work on their hands to prepare their release for a shot. Have players work on their deception before they shoot the puck.

Description

Coach draws 2 spots near the top of the circles for the shooters to shoot from.

Shooter faces the line of players with the pucks at the top of the drill.

Players in line places a puck close to the shooter. The shooter then finds the puck, performs a fake, turns around and takes a shot.

This pattern is repeated 3-5 times then the shooter is switched. The passer becomes the shooter and the shooter returns to line. The next player in line becomes the passer.

Key Points

Encourage players to practice a fake before turning around to shoot.

  • Transferring body weight
  • Keeping puck under control
  • Turning in opposite direction of fake

Work on shot in stride technique:

  • Weight transfer
  • Kinetic chain
  • Hands out
  • Follow through

Players should be in hockey stance to maximize efficiency.

Puck should start next to back foot (not in front of the body).
