DRILLS AND PRACTICE PLANS

Outside Edge Over Sticks

This drill is a great way to work on a players outside edges. Use this drill to teach players balance on their inside edges.

Description

Players spread out evenly inside the drill area and place their sticks on the ice (or designated area)

Players practice balancing on their outside edges of their inside foot as they step over the stick with their outside foot.

Once they cross their feet over they pick up their inside foot and repeat on the opposite side.

Key Points

Focus bending ankle to enable balancing on outside edge.

Lowering hips will also lower center of gravity and help with balance.

Make the exercise harder by encouraging bigger steps over the stick.

Ensure players skates stay parallel to the sticks.
