Cross Ice Crossovers encourages proper posture for linear crossovers. Have players drop their hips as they change directions to maintain good balance.
Description
Coach draws lines on the ice to designate starting point for the players on both sides of the ice.
On the whistle first players skate to the far side while performing different crossover patterns at the coaches direction.
Patterns:
- Big crossovers to outside edges
- Fast outside edges (small and tight)
- Zig zag crossovers at full speed
Players line up in the line at the far side.
Once a player finishes next player may go.
Key Points
Focus on outside edge balance:
- Ankle flexion
- Inside hip under shoulders
- Inside shoulder higher than outside shoulder
Encourage players to listen to their outside and inside edges as they cross over.
Players should be trying to maintain a low stance throughout the entire drill.
