Join new Moncton Wildcats Head Coach Gardiner MacDougall to learn this combo 2on1, 1on1, 3on1, and be ready to get involved.
Description:
- Two forwards cross and drop in the middle and play 2on1 vs a D
- Coach blows the whistle to start a short 1on1, centre vs another coach who provides pressure
- The forwards who played the 2on1 set up in offensive zone play positions - one net front and one in the slot or strong side dot lane
- The centre and forwards play a quick 3on1 vs. the original D
- After the 3on1, the coach who provides pressure spots a puck in the corner, the D collects and breaks out the forwards
- Two new D pop into the neutral zone to play a 4on2
- After the 4on2, coach spots a puck for a new D to shoot with the 3 forwards in offensive zone positions
- Drill starts again - 2 forwards cross to play a 2on1 vs a new D, but one forward from the precious rep has is a backchecker
Key Teaching Points:
- Use escapes and scanning in the short 3on1
- Speed through the neutral zone
- Isolate one defenceman on the 4on2 rush
- Communicate!
