Note the progression from squirts to peewees to bantams
- Players are mimicking an offensive zone wall play, where the puck is coming out of the corner and pressure is following the puck up the wall. Players are trying to work the puck backwards away from pressure as quickly as possible, so they can slide along the blueline away from pressure and find an outlet back in the zone.
- Next step is to cycle a puck off the wall and attack the seam to the middle of the ice, but they have been told that pressure has followed them off the wall, so they have to escape high to the top of the zone.
- Last step is to redrive the zone and work a give&go as they attack the net.
Keys:
- looking for quick footwork and good puck control to back away from pressure
- players should work to the top of the zone to maximize space and time before sliding across towards middle ice
- speed to get the puck off the wall and attack the seam
- using space and time at the top of the zone again to escape middle ice pressure
- good vision in finding the passer as they attack the net
- shoot with a purpose
