Corkscrew Shooting - Weak Side

Drill Description:

  • Players will now be lined up on their weak side.
  • Coaches draw the guide now turning into the middle of the ice.
  • It is very important for coaches inform the players this is a situational shot; they are vulnerable turning to the middle and want the players to be aware of this.
  • Coaches focus on the players getting upper and lower body separation, their toes should be facing the middle of the ice while their upper body remains facing the net.

Key Teaching Points:

  • Get into a wide glide with puck loaded in shooting position.
  • Inside Edge Cut of the outside leg.
  • Inside Leg Whips Behind/Across midline of body.
  • Follow through of stick crosses midline of body.
  • After release of the puck, lower body should be facing lateral while upper body remains facing the net.
  • The harder you cut on inside edge (rotate), more spin on the puck = harder shot.
