Corkscrew Shooting - Strong Side
Drill Description:
- Players will be lined up on their strong side for this drill (lefties on left, righties on right).
- Coach uses a bingo dabber or ice marker to draw a guide for players.
- Make sure the guide has them shooting on the inside of the dot, then arching toward the boards to promote the rotation of the lower body.
- Coaches look for the inside leg whipping behind the body, crossing the players midline and also in the air.
- Coaches also look to see how hard they are cutting; the harder the inside edge cut, the more rotation which will put more spin on the puck.
Key Teaching Points:
- Get into a wide glide with puck loaded in shooting position.
- Inside Edge Cut of the outside leg.
- Inside Leg Whips Behind/Across midline of body.
- Follow through of stick crosses midline of body.
- After release of the puck, lower body should be facing lateral while upper body remains facing the net.
- The harder you cut on inside edge (rotate), more spin on the puck = harder shot.
