Corkscrew Shooting - Power Play
Drill Description:
- Coaches draw a straight line from NZ dot to faceoff dot.
- This will act as a guide for the players skating route, as well as where we want them to release it.
- Draw a small circle just inside the faceoff dot for release point.
- Can use coaches or players to act as Dman on the blueline.
- Players in the corners will pass the puck up to the Coach/Player and will skate up the boards near the blue line.
- Once the coach/player receives the pass, they will begin to skate towards the middle of the ice.
- Once the player that made the first pass gets up near the blue line, they will pass the puck back.
- The player who has skated up to the blueline will perform a glide turn, receive the puck inside of the line the coach drew, then handle the puck towards the release point and perform a strong side corkscrew shot.
- This drill can also be done on the weakside for the players with no change in set up.
Key Teaching Points:
- Get into a wide glide with puck loaded in shooting position.
- Inside Edge Cut of the outside leg.
- Inside Leg Whips Behind/Across midline of body.
- Follow through of stick crosses midline of body.
- After release of the puck, lower body should be facing lateral while upper body remains facing the net.
- The harder you cut on inside edge (rotate), more spin on the puck = harder shot.
