Good example of how getting the puck off the wall, attacking the middle manipulates defenders & destabilizes structure
 
ANA is in a fairly stable posture, even while outnumbered, as the play starts up the wall. However, everything changes once VGK carries the puck inside the dots and gains the blue line. Assuming wide entry and F3 shifts to accommodate a D squeeze while becoming responsible for the weakside
 
By getting the puck into the middle of the ice, ANA's gap isn't what it needs to be for a squeeze & the kick out player is allowed the space to make a play back into the middle of the ice
