Turn and Burn works on a variety of skills to challenge players. Have players start slow so that they can get the pattern before speeding up.

Description

Coach draws a line on the ice to indicate starting point and places 1 cone 15-20 feet in front of the line and another 15-20 feet staggered off the net.

Players line up behind the line.

On the whistle players start backwards with a puck towards centre circle.

When the player gets to the circle they transition forwards and skate towards the first cone.

At the cone player completes a tight turn and accelerates back towards the starting line and then completes a lateral pivot moving to the side of the drill.

When in line with the start player transitions forward to accelerate towards the second cone. Performs a delay (turn) and attack the middle with speed.

When a player finishes the course they return to the line on the side and line up in the same line.

Key Points

Players are encouraged to use proper hockey stance and outside edge of inside foot.

Turning their head as they enter the turn towards the next cone to initiated the change in direction.

Have players accelerate out of the turn.

Have 2 players spaced out moving in the drill at once.
