Winning close games doesn’t happen by accident, according to Jenna Trubiano.
Currently in her third season as Head Coach of the University of Michigan Women's hockey team, Trubiano has watched her team flourish under pressure late in close games. During her TCS Live presentation, she focused on late game offensive tactics coaches can use to help complete the comeback.
A previous player and captain with the Wolverines from 2013-2017, Trubiano also served as an Assistant Coach after graduating. Seeing a need to develop late game heroics, Trubiano began focusing on battling in the corners, emphasizing the importance of winning battles under pressure for late-game success, zone entry drills stressing the need for quick entries, and puck possession in order to generate offence with the clock ticking away.
Trubiano, who was a finalist for the ACHA Coach of the Year award last season, goes into her background to open her 20-minute presentation, revealing that she wasn’t a natural hockey player and lacked confidence - so much so she didn’t even want to check the roster following a tryout assuming she wasn’t on the team. She was. And that changed everything for her.
Trubiano recently made headlines by speaking out after being repeatedly harassed playing in an adult hockey league. She’s come a long way in her career and is working hard to create equal opportunities for women in hockey. It’s clear the women’s hockey program at Michigan is in great hands.
