DRILLS AND PRACTICE PLANS

Single Circle Crossovers

Single Circle is a great drill for working on gliding and propelling off edges. Have players use their crossovers to generate speed.

Description

Players line up on the goal line.

Coach directs player to the circle. The player skates hard to gain speed then goes into a glide.

At the circle the player performs crossovers by picking up their outside foot and steeping it over their inside foot.

The player resets their foot position by picking up their inside foot and returning to a glide.

Player repeats this pattern until they complete one and a half circles and then return to the line.

Key Points

Reinforce crossover technique:

  • Inside shoulder up
  • Hips under shoulders
  • Look in the direction of skating
  • Push outside edge under body

Encourage players to listen to their edges.

If it is too hard for players drill can be regressed to the Slingshot drill.
