Shooting and Tracking (Reminder)

This summer drill is a great reminder for what is coming at the start of September with teams being formed.

Two players leave with X1 swinging with a puck and X2 swinging behind them.

X1 passes to the line and then takes the middle of the ice and the line passes to X2 who enters wide.

First Shot comes as X1 net drives and X2 slips the puck to them.  This is an opportunity to work on Two Touch Shooting to get the puck to the net quickly.

After the shot X1 will track against X2 who moves up the wall.

X1 steals the puck and turns to the inside passing the puck to X2 on the outside who enters the zone again.

X2 enters into the zone and this time X1 fans out to get across the mid line of the ice for a second shot.  One thing to mention is the passer must think about where the shooter wants the puck so they can shoot it quickly.  I call this "Passing to a Shooter"

Note - I place a tire there so players are on the close side of the tire for the frist shot and across the tire for the second shot.  If they are one timing the second shot, the puck comes from a good distance out as the pass is above the tire.

This is a great drill for small groups as you can use one end or bigger groups as you can use opposite blue lines.
