DRILLS AND PRACTICE PLANS

Reaction Shooting - Shoot in Stride

Reaction Shooting is used to help a player work on their hands to prepare their release for a shot. Encourage players to get their hands out in front of their body before shooting the puck.

Description

Coach draws 2 spots near the top of the circles for the shooters to shoot from.

Pucks are in behind the player at the top of the drill with the line of players.

Players in line places a puck close to the shooter. The shooter then finds the puck and takes a shot.

This pattern is repeated 3-5 times then the shooter is switched. The passer becomes the shooter and the shooter returns to line. The next player in line becomes the passer.

Key Points

Work on shoot in stride technique:

  • Weight transfer
  • Kinetic chain
  • Hands out
  • Follow through

Players should be in hockey stance to maximize efficiency.

Feet should be facing the target.

Puck should start next to stick side foot (not in front of the body).
