The main part of my role at the Kootenay Hockey Academy this season is running skills practices with both of our teams.* This presents some logistical challenges because my primary coaching tactic for goalies is to write "Stop the Puck" on a whiteboard and hold it up.

So I need my practice plans to cover skills for the skaters, leave time for the goalie coaches, and make it competitive enough to be fresh for two days a week for the next ... many weeks.

These drills were stolen from Dan Ceman's on-ice presentation at TCS Live '25, Transitioning from DZ Coverage to Close Support Breakouts.** I modified them to fit the focus of our two teams, and to keep the action in one end.

*That's not true, my main job is obviously laundry

**Dan's presentation is live October 6th, 2025.
