The power play is a vital component of modern hockey. It is difficult, if not impossible, to reach the playoffs without power play principles.

We talk about structure, but it's important to remember that the most important thing is the fundamentals within the structure. How a player behaves is more important than the X and O.

Changing the structure creates a period of confusion and a slight disorganization for the P.K. players. This period is favorable for the power play; it gains space and time. This creates shooting or passing lanes.

Here are some video examples of the Vegas and Winnipeg teams alternating between the 1-3-1 and the 3-2 in the O-Zone. These are two highest percentages in the regular season.
