There’s never been a more important time for hockey players to find new ways to train, and that includes when you’re away from the rink.

Sense Arena is a company leading the way in this department with their professional skills development platform in virtual reality. Rather than focusing on the improvement of physical abilities, Sense Arena aims to provide valuable read and react training for both skaters and goaltenders.

The virtual reality platform is delivering results, proven by several studies done by Charles University in Prague and the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

Developed with the help of Arizona Coyotes goaltending director Brian Daccord and LA Kings goalie coach Bill Ranford, Sense Arena’s goaltending product is growing in popularity, with over 200 systems sold since July.

The current list of pro goalies now using the product includes:

Some of the skills goalies are improving with Sense Arena include: reading the release, facing screens, and box control. Their training tool is a good way to train without adding physical wear and tear on your body, which means it’s often safe to use when recovering from injuries. Goalies are also now using Sense Arena for pre-game or pre-practice warmup.

“I was tough to explain how VR can help athletes in improving their performance when we started our journey three years ago,” says Sense Arena founder Bob Tetiva. “Now, with NHL organizations reaching out to us, NHL.com writing reviews about our VR, and how it helps the pro goalies in their skills development, I feel finally that all the energy we invested in designing and developing Sense Arena fulfills my bigger vision of establishing brain training as a new category among athletic training.”

Not only can you train your brain using Sense Arena, you see measurable results through their diagnostics. That means you’ll be able to check things likes save percentage, save expectancy, reaction time, angles, puck tracking, and play tracking.

Sense Arena provides regular releases for their web-based application, with new features and drills added every two months. Data is stored on the cloud, meaning that coaches and players can review training results benchmark with other players and goalies, and analyze performance on any laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
