Follow and Chase forces the skaters to work quickly in a condensed area. Fast turns, quick decisions, and solid basics can be the difference between scoring or loosing the puck.
This drill can be expanded to half ice, spreading out the obstacles to turn, and even adding this to become a 2 v 2, or a 2 on 1
SET UP:
- Place 2 bumpers horizontal facing the goal. One at the center hash marks, the other just shy of the blue line.
- Line up Defense below the goal line, Forward just shy of the hash marks - with a puck.
RUN IT:
- On the whistle, both players move across the ice, D behind the next, F in front of it.
- Both turn (D after the goal) (F at the end of the first bumper)
- D follows F through the first gap, and enters the second gap
- F continues out the first around the second barrier, and turns back towards the goal
- D transitions in the second gap, moving backwards to intercept the F on their return.
Notes:
Maintain active sticks
D - stick on the puck, don't dive all in. Poke check it away if possible, do not get off balance.
F - make your moves off the D missteps. get creative and use skills that you aren't accustom to.
