This easy practice drill simulates a game-like situation where a player escapes a tight zone before driving to the middle to create a chance high. Details below, let me know if you enjoy this drill!
Drill Description
Player 1 starts at the blueline and skates straight down along the boards, staying in a tight, narrow lane. As Player 1 enters the tight area near the bottom of the zone, Player 2 makes a pass.
Upon receiving the puck, Player 1 immediately performs a tight turn toward the middle of the ice. Coming out of the turn, the player accelerates with strong crossovers to gain speed and attacks the slot area.
With the puck protected away from the body and the defender shielded using proper body positioning, Player 1 drives the net, looking to create a high-quality scoring chance from the middle — whether it’s a quick shot, rebound opportunity, or a second-effort play.
This drill simulates a game-like situation where the player must create space under pressure in a tight area and turn it into an offensive threat by attacking the most dangerous area on the ice.
