Join Calgary Flames Assistant Coach Cail MacLean for a defending/attacking drill called the Turn and Burn, designed to push offensive creativity (bit of a hidden bagger too!).
Description
- Forwards start at each blue line, D start in the middle, one coach at centre ice and one in zone.
- On whistle, first three forwards leave from one line and skate around coach, coach spots puck anywhere.
- D have to stay on blue line until coach spots puck.
- Forwards pick up puck and attack 3 on 2.
- Part 2. Whistle blows, low coach skates with puck into neutral zone, original forwards track coach and strip puck.
- Two D who handled the rush gap up and work to puck, forwards attack original D for second 3 on 2.
Key Points
- Forwards: get puck off wall, scan ice before retrieval, mid-lane drive.
- Defence: trust your feet! Gap up to keep forwards honest and protect the blue line.
