Get a hundred puck touches in at the start of practice, work on your breakout, offensive zone play, and point shots in this all-encompassing drill from Ottawa Senators Assistant Coach Ben Sexton.

Description

  • Drill starts in opposite corners, forwards lined up at hash marks, D at blue line.
  • F retrieves puck in corner while D dives down past coach, F passes to D.
  • D shoots, then follows to retrieve second puck beside net.
  • F from other blue line tracks through zone to provide centre support for diving D and receives pass.
  • F moves puck to original line, gets bump back pass and skates to far end for shot.
  • Original forward who climbed wall and passed to D receives puck from D in middle of the ice for a shot at far end.
  • Original D follows second forward to far end and receives pass from forwards in line for a shot with players in front.

Progressions

  • Work on wall play or retrieving pucks off wall on breakout.

Key Points

  • Lots of moving parts, so be ready in line!
  • Passes need to be accurate and crispy or the drill will fall apart.
