Hockey Calgary's Zack Finlay shares Minnesota Up in this week's edition of Chalk Talks! This is great for game day skates to get everyone moving and the blood pumping.

Description:

  • Forwards at all four blue lines, D start with pucks at the top of the circles
  • D leave with a puck, forwards cross under blue line and get a pass from D1, F1 drops pass to F2
  • D1 receives a pass from D2 in line for a quick shot on net
  • After forwards cross and F2 has possession, they pass to close blue line F3, who passes across blue line to F4
  • F1 and F2 continue route around centre circle, forwards regroup with F4
  • Original D1 gaps up and plays a 2on1 against F1 and F2
  • Drill starts again from opposite end

Key Teaching Points:

  • Players should constantly have their eyes up when receicing and making passes
  • Call for the puck, encourage communication
  • Forwards: build speed through the neutral zone
  • Defence: gap up in the neutral zone, challenge yourself
