Jussi Ahokas, head coach of the Kitchener Rangers, has a 2 on 2 D-zone turnover drill to get your defence's feet moving and your forwards' brains spinning.
Description
- Drill starts with extra players in the middle of the ice, drill is continuous
- 2 D and 2 forwards start with a 2on2 in the corner with 2 extra defensive zone forwards near the top of the circle
- 2 extra D line up on blue line
- Coach chips puck in to start 2on2 - D pass puck to extra forwards to break out of either side
- Whichever side the forwards break out, they play 2on1 vs. the D on that side down the length of the ice
- D on the other side of the blue line joins from around the pile to create a 2on2
- After the 2on2 skates by, 2 new forward and 2 new D line up in zone and drill contonues
Key Points
- D: first hit or first pinch is hard, stall the puck in the corner and then break out fast
- D use feet to close gaps and use stick on puck
- Forwards be stick ready
