Goalies are always busy with their private goalie coaches at the worst possible times in the summer. Don't they realize your forwards and defenders need target practice? Selfish.

But that's ok, you can take the skaters and get so dialled in that the goalies won't know what hit them when they return to the action. Here are three games you can play without goalies at the start of practice or when they just decide not to show up at all.

Penguin Takeover

  • Defending team can send two players into opponent's zone to steal the puck
  • When defending team passes puck back over takover line, two new players can cross the takeover line to retrieve it
  • Change on whistle

Middle Bump Passing Warmup

  • 3on3 in neutral zone, teams get one point for each successful pass into the middle circle
  • teams go on offence by tagging up - bumping puck off boards either to themselves or to a teammate
  • Switch on whistle, chip a new puck into the middle

Corner 3on3 Breakout / Offence

  • 3 players from each line play 3on3 out of corner
  • Offensive players try to score on empty net
  • Defensive players try to switch sides behind the net
  • Coach chips in new puck when puck leaves playing area or a goal is scored
  • Defensive players are safe when puck switches sides behind net

Bonus! Throw a goalie in the net when they show up, the players will love ripping one-timers from the strong-side dot.
